Mackinaw Area Historical Society Releases New Children’s Activity Booklet
Children’s Activity Booklet from Mackinaw Area Historical Society
Mackinaw City, MI — The Mackinaw Area Historical Society (MAHS) is pleased to announce the release of a new children’s activity booklet titled Exploring Heritage Village & May Woods, designed to engage elementary-aged children in local history through creativity, storytelling, and play.
Made possible through a Youth Advisory Council Grant from the Straits Area Community Foundation, the 24-page activity booklet introduces young learners to the historic buildings and natural areas found at Heritage Village and May Woods. The booklet blends historical narrative with interactive elements such as coloring pages and games, encouraging children to learn about Mackinaw’s past while expressing their own creativity.
The booklet was authored by MaryAnn Moore, a Mackinaw City resident, board member of the Mackinaw Area Historical Society, and her friends, who collaborated to present history in a way that is approachable and fun for young audiences.
“It was such a fun exercise to see Heritage Village and May Woods through a child’s eyes. We wanted to give kids the chance to bring these places to life through their own creativity, while also helping them understand the stories and history behind them.”
