Celebrating 20 Years of the Annual Historic Festival
This year marked the 20th anniversary of our beloved Annual Historic Festival! Thanks to the dedication of our volunteers, board members, and community supporters, the event continues to grow and bring local history to life for all ages.
Building & Facilities Updates
Our team has been busy improving and enhancing the Heritage Village and surrounding trails. Recent projects include:
Concrete pads poured and new portable Vintage Bike Art—perfect for fun photos and social sharing
Community Piano added for visitors to play
Bird nest building and an eagle nest created
Freedom School chimney and pavilion electrical system repaired
Five new Red Oaks planted and numbered trees added at the entrance
Installation of a historic earth heap toilet
New pieces on the Art Trail—including a nature-inspired piano
Continued trail maintenance in May Woods and expansion of the Tip of the Mitt Trail
Sawmill sides reopened
Waganogan and Anishinaabe Area Enhancements
The area continues to grow with new “shadow” artwork at the plank house and the addition of four beautiful lilac bushes.
Spring & Fall School Programs
We’re proud to continue welcoming school groups for immersive, hands-on historical learning experiences—helping students step back in time and connect with the past.
Monthly Lecture Series
Join us for our popular lecture series, held the second Monday of each month at 7 PM at the Mackinaw Area Public Library.
If you can’t attend in person, join us via Zoom!
Each lecture explores fascinating topics—from local legends to broader historical themes.
