Mackinaw City, MI — The Mackinaw Area Historical Society (MAHS) is proud to announce that its President, Angie Morthland, has been named the 2025 Citizen of the Year as part of the Community Excellence Awards presented by the Mackinaw Area Chamber of Commerce. This honor recognizes Angie’s extraordinary dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to preserving, promoting, and uplifting the history and spirit of the Mackinaw region.
Angie’s influence extends far beyond her work with MAHS. A tireless advocate for local heritage, she is widely known for her historically accurate portrayal of Rosie the Riveter, her service with the Mackinaw Area Women’s Society, her enthusiastic role as announcer and supporter of the Jack Pine Lumberjack Show, and her ongoing involvement with the Annual Straits Swim. She is also a devoted supporter of Fort Michilimackinac and participates in countless community initiatives—often simultaneously.
“Angie has a seemingly infinite store of energy that she applies toward the community and the people around her,” said Meghan Flynn, friend and Director of Technology & Communications for MAHS. “She breathes life into any initiative she undertakes, and it’s a wonder to watch her in action. I’m honored to call her a colleague and friend.”
Under Angie’s leadership, the Mackinaw Area Historical Society has strengthened its mission, expanded its reach, and brought renewed vibrancy to Heritage Village and the organization’s educational programming. Her work reflects not only a love of history, but a deep devotion to the people who call the Straits region home.
“The entire Historical Society congratulates Angie on this well-deserved honor,” MAHS stated. “Her passion, generosity, and boundless enthusiasm make Mackinaw a better place, and we are grateful every day for her leadership and her heart.”
Angie Morthland was formally recognized at the Mackinaw Area Chamber of Commerce’s Community Excellence Awards ceremony in November.
