Heritage Village to Host Free Historic Festival and Pet Parade This July
MACKINAW CITY, MI (June 15, 2025) — The Mackinaw Area Historical Society and Heritage Village invite families and friends of all ages to two back‑to‑back summer celebrations that honor local history—and feature some four‑legged (and feathered!) fun.
Historic Festival
Date: Saturday, July 26, 2025
Time: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Location: Heritage Village, 1425 W Central Ave, Mackinaw City
Step back in time to the years 1880–1917 at Heritage Village’s annual Historic Festival. This free, family‑friendly event sprawls across 43 acres of woodland trails and vintage buildings, where costumed docents reenact daily life on the North Woods frontier.

Working Sawmill Demonstrations & Lumberjack Showcase
Traditional Maypole Dance
Vintage Base Ball Games & Historic Children’s Pastimes
Guided tours of the Chapel, Pestilence Quarantine House, School House, and more
Garden activities and heritage crafts
Whether you’re a history buff or simply seeking a fun day outdoors, the Historic Festival offers immersive demonstrations and hands‑on experiences that bring the past to life.
Pet Parade & Community Cookout
Date: Friday, July 25, 2025
Time: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Location: Heritage Village, 1425 W Central Ave, Mackinaw City
Calling all pet lovers! On the eve of the festival, Heritage Village hosts its annual Pet Parade and Community Cookout. Parade your furry, feathered, or scaly companion down our historic pathways and compete for “Best‑Dressed Pet” prizes. After the parade, stick around for a relaxed cookout featuring grilled favorites and refreshments.

Costume contest with categories for pets of all shapes and sizes
Prizes awarded to top “Best‑Dressed” entries
Community cookout
