Board Members Promote Beloved Pet Parade and Historic Festival
Mackinaw City, MI — July 22, 2025 — The Mackinaw Area Historical Society (MAHS) was thrilled to appear on Good Day Northern Michigan on 9&10 News on Tuesday, July 22. Board members Angie Morthland, President of MAHS, and fellow board member Mark Scholten joined the program in-studio to share details about two of the organization’s most cherished summer events: the upcoming Pet Parade and the Historic Festival at Heritage Village.
The segment, hosted by Bill Froehlich and Rachel Rademacher, gave viewers across Northern Michigan a look at what makes these events such a beloved part of Mackinaw’s summer season.
Morthland and Scholten invited viewers from across Northern Michigan to join in the fun on Friday, July 25, when the Pet Parade kicks off at 6 PM. Pets of all kinds are welcome—whether they bark, meow, squawk, or slither. Costumes and creativity are encouraged, and all with prizes awarded in fun categories like "Best Dressed." More details can be found at mackinawhistory.org/pet-parade.
Following the parade, families are encouraged to come back Saturday the 26th for the Historic Festival at Heritage Village from 10 AM to 4 PM. This long-running celebration of Mackinaw’s rich past features live music, heritage crafts, logging and sawmill demos, historical docents, vintage base ball, food, and fun for all ages. This free event offers a unique chance to step back in time and explore the region’s history in an immersive setting. Learn more at mackinawhistory.org/historic-festival.
Reflecting on the broadcast, Morthland shared her gratitude:
“It was such a wonderful opportunity to share these events with the Good Day Northern Michigan audience. For over twenty years, the Historic Festival has brought our community together to celebrate the history, charm, and creativity that make Mackinaw City so special.”
The Mackinaw Area Historical Society invites all residents and visitors to come out and experience the history, hospitality, and fun that define these annual traditions.
